UPDATE Acrylic Paint Markers: Sharpie Creative v Posca

I wanted to share an update to my Acrylic Paint Markers: Sharpie Creative v Posca post (if you haven't read it, you can do so here). I purchased Sharpie's new earth-tone set of their Creative markers. These are bullet-tipped, which allows me to comment further on the comparison of the two brands.

The bullet tips of Sharpie brand acrylic markers are significantly softer and more flexible than those of Posca. Like Sharpie's brush-tip Creative markers, you don't have to shake or pump to prime the tips, allowing the paint to flow smoothly.

I have also spent much more time with both brands of acrylic markers since my previous post. Especially in the case with the newer earth-tone Sharpie set, the lighter colors do not cover darker colors well. In my latest sketch, I had to switch to Posca markers, despite the change it meant in the color palette. The Sharpie markers weren't "painting" over each other opaquely enough.

Sharpie Creative markers require more coats to cover the white of the page than Posca (Earth Tone Set). The light blue would not cover the rust red. I used Posca's white to cover the rust red and then attempted to put the light blue over that. You can see the difference between the light blue with no white underneath and the light blue with white underneath. (Sharpie Creative light blue on the left. Posca light blue marker on the right.)

I do think Sharpie Creative markers have their place and are enjoyable to use. However, the more I use both brands, the more I prefer Posca's markers. I do hope they continue to expand their lines of colors.
