Seek Joy: The Little Things

Sometimes, the littlest, silliest things can bring exponential joy.

Today, I received a package from a friend of mine. She recently attended a puzzle competition - which in and of itself cracks me up - and they had a table of puzzles they were giving away. The table had a pile of three identical puzzles, and she thought it would be a fun idea for her, myself, and another friend of ours to put them together during a Zoom visit.

I love this idea so much, I can't tell you. A puzzle race via Zoom is the kind of creative, joy-seeking activity we need. If you’re in a slump or rut, might I suggest injecting a bit of whimsy into your life?

You can find sources of whimsy in your community:

  • Your public library events calendar

  • Your YMCA

  • Your Parks and Recreation Department

  • City, Township, County, and State events calendars

  • Local museums

Not only can you attend an event hosted by your community (and invite friends and/or family along to add to the entertainment value), but you can also create your own whimsical group activities.

  • Scavenger hunts

  • Car bingos

  • Game nights

  • Craft nights

  • Book clubs

  • Foreign comedy movie nights

  • Finger foods Friday for five at five

  • Cheesecake party

  • Knitting olympics

Get creative and go crazy!
